This is a story of a little survivor and a very hard working breeder who worked tirelessly enduring her own serious health issues to save this little babies life.
My Homebred Girl Crouchent Blaze O Glory has been mated in the past and the end result always proved to be she would re-absorb her babies. As another effort to keep her line going I tried another mating. Sure enough week 7 she started to re-absorb again however gave birth on the 25/04/09 to two tiny little pre-mature babies.
Over the years I have found a healthy survival weight for a pom to be at least 7o gms, ideally though a good birth weight should be 100gm.
Jack and Jill were only 40 gms. I did not expect them to survive.
Jack proved me right the next day and passed away RIP.
Jack did look the healthiest so I didnt hold out much hope for little Jilly, but I was adament to do the most I could to get her going again.
25.04.09 - Jack and Jill were born.
Mother has no milk was substituting with bottle feeds.
26.04.09 - Jack passed away.
03.05.09 - Jill has double her birthweight to 80gms.
04.04.09 - Jill "died" a couple of times yesterday and once again today.
She went black, gasped with milk bubbles and stiffened out. I rubbed her like a new born and brought her back.
05.05.09 - Started tube feeding in hope to help he get more nutrience.
Diary Notes (07.05.09) - YES, MY EYEBALLS ARE DRAGGING IN THE MUD, I HAVE BEEN QUITE SICK, BUT OH SO VERY TIRED.UP EVERY NIGHT 2-2 1/2 HOURLY FEEDS, NOT GOING TO BED MYSELF BEFORE MIDNIGHT, AND GETTING UP BY SIX OR EARLIER.ALL DAY 1-2 HOURLY WITH A PRECIOUS LITTLE BAY GIRL NAMED "JILL", TEMPORARY. HER MOTHER ALMOST ALWAYS REABSORBS HER LITTERS AT A VARYING STAGE OF PREGNANCY, SOMETIMES COMPLETELY, OTHER TIMES TO A STILLBORN SMALL PUP AND THIS TIME SHE GOT TO WITHIN 7-10 DAYS OF DUE DATE AND REABSORBING BEGAN. I KNOW BECAUSE EXPECTING THIS TO HAPPEN I WEIGHED HER EVERY WEEK, BUT ALAS, SHE WAS DECREASING AND ONE DAY PRIOR TO HER FIRST DUE DATE SHE GAVE BIRTH TO TWO TEENY WEENY LITTLE COMPLETE PUPS MALE AND FEMALE, "JACK" AND "JILL" EACH WEIGHING A MERE 40 GM . SADLY JACK HAD A SERIOUS PROBLEM OBVIOUSLY AND CRIED ALL NIGHT AND DIED NEXT DAY.I HAVE ALWAYS TRIED, USUALLY IN VAIN TO SAVE ANYTHING SO TINY, AND THIS TIME IT WAS AGAINST ALL ODDS.EVERYTHING WAS AGAINST ME, I WAS VERY SICK, HAD BEEN TO THE DR WITH A NASTY VIRUS ,MUM HAD PRACTICALLY NO MILK, BUT WOULD NOT NESTLE AT ALL WITH HER PUPPIES, AND WOULD, AFTER JACK DIED, JUST SOMETIMES LAY IN THE HEATED BOX WITH JILL, WITH HER BACK TO HER OR SOMETIMES EXACTLY ON TOP OF HER. ONE GOOD THING CAME OUT OF IT ALL, SHE WOULD CLEAN BABY.JILL DIDN'T HAVE ONE DRINK FROM HER, SO I AM STOKED AT GETTING MY LITTLE JILL DOUBLE HER BIRTHWEIGHT AT ABOUT A WEEK OLD ,NOW 12 DAYS AND THRIVING. A FEW DAYS AGO SHE "DIED" ON ME SEVERAL TIMES, WENT PURE BLACK, STIFF AND STILL, WITH MILK BUBBLES. I BRISKLY RUBBED HER LIKE A NEW BORN PUP AND GOT HER AROUND AGAIN. AT A LAST RESORT I WENT TO VET AND GOT A TUBE AND TUBE FED FOR A DAY OR SO TO AVOID MILK COMING OUT HER NOSE, WHICH ONLY BEGAN AT OVER A WEEK OLD , THEN BACK TO THE BOTTLE.I FED HER FROM DAY ONE ON BIO LAC MILK, NATURAL YOGHURT WITH ACIDOPHILUS AND PENTAVITE DROPS.AT THE FIRST SIGN OF A QUICK WEIGHT LOSS AND EXTRA LICKING FROM MUM MEANT DIARRHOEA, SO A COUPLE OF SCOURBAN DROPS IMMEDIATELY CURED THAT.THE AMOUNT PER FEED WAS ALMOST UNMEASURABLE IT WAS SO MINUTE, BUT I LET HER DRINK AS MUCH AS SHE WANTED UNTIL HER TUMMY LOOKS VERY FULL.IT SOON EMPTIES AGAIN. NOW 12 DAYS LATER I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO EASE OFF A LITTLE ( FOR MY OWN HEALTH SAKE ) OVERNIGHT, EXTENDING FEEDS TO 3 HOURLY, BUT BACK TO REGULAR DURING THE DAY.MAYBE NOT THAT NECESSARY, BUT I DON'T INTEND ON TAKING ANY CHANCES NOW.THIS MAY HELP IF ANY OF YOU HAVE TINY PUPS TO REAR AT ANYTIME.. OVER THE MANY YEARS I HAVE FOUND A MINIMUM HAPPY SURVIVAL WEIGHT WITH THE MUMS HELP WAS 70 GM, FROM THESE LITTLE TYPE POMS SO WHAT HAVE I ACHIEVED HERE!!!. SOMETHING I AM EXTREMELY PROUD OF. FORGIVE ME DETAILING THIS SO THOROUGHLY, BUT I WANT TO PRINT IT OUT FOR MY OWN KEEPING. PUPPIES WERE BORN ON 25 TH APRIL 2009, NOW 7 TH MAY 2009.I WOULD PREDICT JILL IS NOW OUT OF THE WOODS, BARRING ANY UNDERLYING CAUSE FROM THE BEGINNING OF REABSORBING.I WILL TRY AND FOLLOW THIS UP FOLKS WITH SOME PHOTOS OF THESE TINY MITES.
